If you could have a Nanny superpower, what would it be?

Vacation Nannies are not only looking for childcare workers, I am also looking for outgoing, fun and enthusiastic young professionals, graduates or students with an interesting skill or exciting talent they can offer to their childcare service.

After spending five years at art school, I am an arts and crafts enthusiast, rarely going away on a contract without a wonderful bag of arts and crafts goodies to keep the children occupied. I also spent my childhood going on family ski holidays, had the experience of working in the London fashion industry as a graduate, and I also travelled India and Nepal before coming out to Morzine on my first ski season. All of these experiences have interesting stories attached to share with both the children and families.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a child care qualification?

To be a nanny, you do not need a childcare qualification, it is an added bonus if you do and we can recommend courses to complete if you do wish to gain a qualification. Most families we work with are mostly interested in the nannies experiences and excellent references. Vacation Nannies do not register any nanny without at least one full year’s experience looking after children and with excellent written and verbal references and all relevant paperwork.

Some clients do specifically request for a nanny with a childcare or first aid qualification, so only these jobs will only be offered to those candidates.

Does the family provide everything for me whilst I’m away?

The family pay for all your transport, which usually includes taxis and train fares to and from the airport. It’s a good idea to keep receipts to give to the family. All food and accommodation are to be paid for, don’t be afraid to ask them to buy the foods you like to eat, they will always ask! The only time you will spend your own money is on your day off, or if you have a break during the day and go out for a coffee for example.

How much do I get paid per hour?

Your hourly / daily rate depends on your experience. It ranges from around £6 to £18 per hour, depending on the nannies experience and qualifications. The day rate is also dependant on the requirements of the family, if the family has high expectations of the nanny, the prices will be fair. After speaking with you, the final rate will be negotiated between Vacation Nannies and the family before the final invoice.

Do I have to fly to the destination with the family?

Yes, it is usually a request from the family that you travel with them, to help throughout the flight and in the airport. However, if you are in a different country and find that meeting them at the destination is the only way possible, arrangements can be made.
